The Rocanville Aquatic Centre is the only indoor, heated Junior Olympic swimming pool in the area. With a whopping pool size of 25 x 12.5 meters, it provides ample space for public and private lessons, lane swimming, public recreational swimming, fitness, and water sports. Diving boards are measured at 1 metre and 3 metres to accommodate varying abilities. Additionally, the new pool lift provides barrier-free access to the pool for those with special joint and mobility needs.

The current pool facility was built in 1974. With a generous donation of $40,000 from Sylvite of Canada Division of Hudson Bay Mining and Smelting Co. Ltd. the new Four Seasons Swimming Pool would provide aquatic opportunities for the people of Rocanville and surrounding areas for many enjoyable years.
Since its construction, the pool facility has provided access to new programs and means of exercise for people of all ages. Indoor pools are not something you often find in small communities, but Rocanville has been home to this hidden gem for over 40 years. The Rocanville Aquatic Centre was built over 40 years ago and has been a well-loved and used building within the community since. Throughout the years the Aquatic Centre has not only provided a place for leisure activities such as public swims and birthday parties, but it has also provided Lifesaving/ Red Cross swimming lessons and courses to our community and many of the surrounding communities. The Aquatic Centre has had many repairs but as the building continues to age it is now requiring some major renovations to continue to operate. It is our hope that with renovations to our pool we could operate as a year-round facility and continue to provide many communities with the opportunity for lessons for years to come.
“You never know how much a facility like that is being used until it’s not there. To get people to understand that, and to get people involved now before the pool is actually closed is where you are going to get your biggest bang for your buck.”
Rocanville has been fortunate to secure a grant to help pay for the much-needed renovations of the pool and we have the commitment from our town and RM to support this project. However, we still have a long way to go to fully fund the renovation project. With support, we will be able to continue to provide life-saving programs and offer fitness, rentals, and public swimming not just to Rocanville but to all of the surrounding communities as well.
It is important to note that our existing pool will not be able to continue to operate as it is. We must secure funding to save our pool!
“If we don’t have the pool there won’t be a [swim] club.”
Required Upgrades
A structural assessment was completed in November of 2018 that outlined the issues that need to be improved or rectified. Based on that report the Rocanville Aquatic Center is planning the following renovations/upgrades:
- The current foundation will be replaced with new piles and grade beams to support a new pre-engineered steel building structure over the pool. The existing building will be demolished. The new building will have a larger footprint than the existing building.
- Electrical system upgrades that will provide better lighting to the pool area.
- The existing pool structure will be maintained; however, an interior liner will be installed to prevent the leakage of water.
- The existing pool deck will be demolished and replaced with a 10mm concrete slab on grade with pool deck epoxy flooring installed over top.
- Building mechanical upgrades to include the addition of units to handle fresh air ventilation and dehumidification of the building.
- The mezzanine will be rebuilt.
- Other improvements include a new covered canopy side main entrance, new first aid station, lifeguard break room, larger men’s and women’s change room, a new barrier-free/family/gender-neutral change room, new pool storage room, an expanded pool deck area, new lifeguard desk, and a new waterslide.
